Eric Carle's books are always good for beginner readers, since they are predictable. For second grade I prefer anything they can relate to and make connections. Also, traditional fairy tales are a favorite!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite mentor texts for older students are the Judy Moody/ Stink series by Megan Mcdonald. The fact that they are appealing to both male and female students helps teach my students literacy. Also, they are available in both English and Spanish.
